Me at a Book Signing in 2010
Up until recently, I worked as the Content and Technical writer for a fall protection company. That means I write articles for the website and I’m responsible for the instruction manuals for over 3,000 products. It’s a job that I genuinely enjoyed and it’s something I’m very good at. Our instruction manuals are quickly becoming the best in the industry. My articles have been featured on a few industry websites and a couple of trade magazines. In the five years that I worked there, I’ve gone from knowing nothing about fall protection to being an industry expert who was recently contacted by a publishing company to consult on their upcoming fall protection book.
During that time, I’ve also written and published one book that has nothing to do with fall protection. I’m preparing to publish a second book. This one’s a novel. I’ve maintained this site and started TacomaStories.com where I have interviewed everyone from a homeless street poet to the Pierce County Prosecutor to Vicci Martinez from NBC’s The Voice. In addition to all of that, I maintain a Facebook page, a Google + page, and two twitters.
I do all of this because I believe if you can do something better than the person next to you then that’s what you should do. I love to write and so that’s what I do. I write what I want when I’m not getting paid. When I am getting paid, I’ll write whatever you want me to write.
So here’s the deal. I work in the Tacoma/Seattle area, but I’m happy to telecommute. I have experience writing newsletters, articles, content for websites, instruction manuals, marketing materials and a lot of other things. I’ve worked for tiny start-up companies, the police department and amazon.com among others. I get along with just about everyone I meet. Regardless of the situation I will not freak out or stress out. What I’ll do instead is get the job done.
You can see some of my work at the links in this article. Below is a link to various articles I’ve written for my most recent employer who I can’t say enough nice things about. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep me on full time staff due to the downturn in the construction industry. And so I’m looking for something new.
